The Omaka Special

Time: 20mins   Price: $1999

This is a 20 minute experience offered when the Yak is available at Air Shows. The ride includes a look around the aircraft and a thorough pre-flight briefing. A local scenic will let you settle in before we conduct some graceful aerobatics depending on your choice and fortitude before we return to the airfield for a buzz and break into the pattern (traffic permitting).

These rides are typically conducted on the Monday after the show finishes though there might be some availability after the show closes through the weekend.

Fighter Flight

Time: 30mins  Price: $2399

This is a 30 minute experience tailored to suit your individual requirements. We will fly out of Omaka Airfield in the beautiful Marlborough wine growing region and take in some of the local scenery while you settle in and absorb the fact you are actually flying in a 1200 hp V-12 Warbird.

We will then engage in some graceful aerobatics before we carry out a few of the higher g basic fighter maneuvers common to single seat fighters of the WW II era. Once we check that the required fun level has been reached we will head home at low level past the white bluffs of Marlborough for a buzz and break into the pattern.

The flight will be recorded on high quality digital video format for you to keep.

The Full Monty

Time: 45mins   Price: $2999

We will get airborne and formate on a camera ship where you will have your broad smile recorded by none other than renowned Warbird photographer Gavin Conroy.

Once we have you recorded for posterity we will separate and then engage the enemy with a very good chance of sending him to a smoking doom. Flush with success we will then head off for some graceful aerobatics before heading back to the airfield. Flight time typically 45 mins.

The flight will be recorded on high quality digital video format for you to keep.

Please note that this flight ideally should be booked with two or more days notice so that we can arrange the photographer and photo-ship.

This magnificent aircraft is one of the stars of Omaka’s World War II exhibition, Dangerous Skies. Taking pride of place next to Russian pilot Lydia Litvyak, the worlds’ highest scoring female ace of World War II and one of three flyable aircraft in the exhibition, it also has the distinction of being available for joy flights.

This newly restored Yak 3 is a World War II icon and boasts an Allison V1710 V-12 engine. For the non-enthusiast, this means the aircraft has a cruise speed of 285 mph and a maximum speed of 407 mph. However, not only is the Yak 3 built for speed is it also extremely manoeuvrable which means if you are up for it you will be able to experience some rolls too!
